Uproxx Features Refinery Rooftop in We Asked Bartenders To Name Their Favorite Cocktail Bars

But sometimes bartenders want to branch out and see what else is out there, and the best way to learn what your fellow bartenders are working on, what’s trending, and sample innovative cocktails is to visit other bars and lounges. Allie Torres, bartender at Refinery Rooftop in New York City enjoys visiting other establishments, even traveling across the ocean to do so. One of her favorites is Lyaness (formerly Dandelyan), in London.

“It was crowned best bar in the world,” she says, “and as skeptical as I am hearing something like this, it did not disappoint. As a native New Yorker, we have an extremely high barometer for quality and I can tell you: this place is special.”

Besides the cocktails being wildly inventive, Torres was all about the Lyaness vibe. “The staff is so knowledgeable but also approachable. The energy in that room really sold me and rekindled my romance with true hospitality.”

Torres is not alone in her support of her fellow bartenders and mixologists. That’s why we asked some of our favorite bartenders to tell us their picks for the best cocktail bars in the world.

Uproxx Features Refinery Rooftop in Bartenders Name The Best Cognacs And Brandies For Fall 2019

Alli Torres, bartender at Refinery Rooftop in New York City

Absolutely loving Gautier VS Cognac right now. This golden-colored beauty has been popping up on my radar more and more this year due to its price point and flavor profile. Its extensive aging process in French oak barrels delivers a spicy yet fruity aroma that plays well in citrus-forward cocktails and is divine in a Sidecar.

Trademark BWW

Broadway World Features Trademark Taste + Grind in NYC- So much to Savor

Here’s a midtown restaurant that our readers should put on their radar. Trademark Taste + Grind, operated IGC Hospitality, offers superb menu selections by Executive Chef Adrienne Guttieri and it also has a great bar and lounge scene. It’s a welcoming modern American restaurant conveniently located in on West 36th Street in Hotel Le Soleil.

We had a relaxing dinner on Wednesday night just before attending a show. Make it a destination for pre-theatre meals and post theatre drinks and bites. Cozy booths and comfortable tables are just right for date night or a small group. The restaurant is just steps away from Herald Square, the Empire State Building, and 5th Avenue. Trademark Taste + Grind also serves breakfast, lunch, Happy Hour, and weekend brunches. It’s good to know that they are open on major holidays for gatherings too. And guests will like that the restaurant uses their relationships with Hudson Valley, Upstate NY Farmers, and local NYC purveyors to source fine ingredients for their menu items.

Liquor.com Features IGC Hospitality in Ways To Deal With Negative Yelp Reviews

1. DON’T TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY

For the sake of your mental health, don’t let attacks discourage you or your team. You can’t be a robot 24/7, but this industry gives you a thick skin for a reason. Stephen Maly, the director of hospitality and guest relations for New York City’s IGC Hospitality, says not taking things personally helps him focus on how he could improve service for his venues.

“I can remember the first negative online review I ever received, around 2007 when I worked as a manager at Libation nightclub,” says Maly. “The review outlined an experience that was less than satisfactory and provided details that included ‘the idiot manager and his Kmart suit.’ At the time, I felt shocked and had feelings of anxiety, frustration, embarrassment and anger. As time passed, I adjusted my thought process and tried to take emotion out of analyzing reviews and focus on what frustrated the customer. If you can take ego out of the equation and find the root of what went wrong, you can learn a lot.”

2. LISTEN TO THE NOISE

Part of Maly’s job is going through and responding to every review, positive and negative, received by IGC’s restaurants and bars, including Trademark Taste + GrindThe Wilson and Woodpecker by David Burke. He says his team regularly evaluates feedback to constantly refine their business.

“Feedback and reviews are important to our success,” says Maly. “If 100 customers say the same thing, then we would be foolish to not listen to them. Based on some of our reviews, we have changed menu items, music selections and even hours of operation. In one instance, we were getting multiple negative reviews about one of our restaurants being too loud, so we had an acoustics expert come in to install sound-absorbing panels to help soak up some of those pesky sound waves.”
